Women in Trades at Government House

Jun 1, 2020

This year, Her Excellency the Honourable Linda Dessau AC, Governor of Victoria, and Mr Anthony Howard AM QC invited organisations involved with supporting women in trades to share in the decoration of the Government House Christmas Tree.

This year, Her Excellency the Honourable Linda Dessau AC, Governor of Victoria, and Mr Anthony Howard AM QC invited organisations involved with supporting women in trades to share in the decoration of the Government House Christmas Tree. The Governor and Mr Howard asked each organisation to prepare a decorative ornament that exemplified how their respective organisation supports the contribution of women in trades.

We received an invitation for two guests from Programmed to attend. With a number of nominations from our PPS General Managers, Wendy Meek, a Painter Foreperson 2 working in our Brisbane Branch, was selected to Attend this event with Terri Hosking, PPS Executive General Manager.

Her Excellency the Honourable Linda Dessau AC addressed the guests and paid tribute to the many women who have led the way, embarking on trades careers and the importance and benefits of organisations consciously continuing to build diverse workforces.

The event was well represented by many different organisations across Victoria and it was terrific to have the opportunity of celebrating Wendy’s contribution to our business.

Wendy has been a key contributor to our painting business for over 15 years, starting her painting career with Programmed PPS in New Zealand and then transferring to Brisbane. When Wendy transferred to Brisbane, Andrew Graham and the team recognised the depth of Wendy’s skills and experience and supported to obtain her trade certificate, which she did three years ago.

Wendy came to Programmed already trail blazing, having started her career as a jockey in the UK and being applauded with notable achievements in her horse racing career in the UK, followed by experience
in hospitality. Her passion for travel has taken her to many different places, eventually finding her way to Programmed. Wendy’s success today is underpinned by passion for people, which is acknowledged by her customers, and her care, empathy and support for her team in helping them to be successful in what they do.

It was an absolute pleasure to share this time with Wendy and celebrate her wonderful achievements and to be able to take the time to thank her for her contribution to our business and say well done on a stellar career!
