Alana Wins Midwife of the Year

PHP midwife Alana Matson was recently announced as the state winner for Western Australia in the JOHNSON’S® Midwife of the Year Awards. Each year, the awards coincide with International Day of the Midwife, which is celebrated on 5 May.

Alana joined PHP in May 2013 and since then has worked in a number of metro and regional placements including areas as far afield as Esperance, Kalgoorlie and Karratha. More recently she has been working regular shifts with our customer Ramsay Healthcare at their Peel campus (Peel Health) in Mandurah.

Alana proudly received her award at a morning tea held at Peel Health in front of managers, fellow midwives and PHP representatives. Alana was humbled to have received many nominations from families acknowledging the exceptional care and support she provided them throughout their pregnancies. One of her nominators, Grace, was also in attendance on the day, along with her baby boy who Alana recently delivered.

Grace’s glowing nomination of Alana, describes her as “not just a midwife, she is such a lovely and caring person. She puts her heart and soul into her job and knows exactly what to do to make you feel safe. Knowledge, dedication, patience, support and caring are just a few of the words which describe Alana”

This was a very proud moment for PHP State Manager Jodie Poole and the wider PHP business, to be present when Alana received this prestigious award. Alana personally thanked PHP with special thanks to recruitment specialist Denise Maher for looking after her so well, particularly when she worked in regional areas.

Alana is happy that as an agency nurse she has been recognised and rewarded and further commented, “I love agency nursing; I have gained so much variety and valuable nursing experience from it.”

At a subsequent event, Programmed managing director Chris Sutherland had the opportunity to present Alana with an award and gift on behalf of Programmed and PHP.
